Re: New Delayed Right Turn W 41st St and lack of enforcement
From The President and The Executive Committee of the MPTA
The President attended the Full Board Meeting of Community Board 4 in October and made a passionate complaint and plea for REAL implementation of action concerning the new timed Right hand turn and crosswalk delay on 41st St and 9th Ave..
On several occasions....SEVERAL.....although Community Board has been instrumental in the delayed Right hand turn off of 9th Ave and designated Right Turn lanes.....BOTH pedestrians and motorists are ignoring the signals.Aggitated motorists are sometimes turning Right from the Middle lane of traffic around those who might be obeying the Red Light....putting pedestrians and other motorists in mortal danger. Pedestrians are ignoring the new delayed Green light as well walking illegally into moving traffic. Yesterday I observed several cars and trucks ignoring the Red Light while a Traffic Cop stood IN the intersection ignoring the motorists illegal turns.
I am uging all residents to Please observe and respect these new signals both on 41st and 42nd Streets and to please support a letter from The MPTA to Community Board 4 and D.O.T. to ENFORCE this intersection.
The Membership attending the October MPTA voted to send a letter in support of more control and enforcement of this Intersection. A letter is being sent to Community Board 4 and the D.O.T.
